The Mitzvah of Matanos L’Evyonim on Purim is to give at least one gift to two different poor people on the day of Purim. The plural form of the word “L’Evyonim” appearing in the megilla teaches us that it must be given to two people (as discussed in the Meseches Megillah 7a). According to some, there is also a general mitzvah of providing for the Purim needs of the poor (see Gemorah Bava Metziah 78b).
