Rabbi Isaac Leeser (1806 -1868) was an American, Ashkenazi Jewish religious leader, teacher, scholar
and publisher. He is considered one of the most important nineteenth century American Jewish personalities. He was fiercely opposed to unauthentic Judaism, wrote the first trustworthy English translation of the Torah, and helped found the Jewish press of America and educational organizations. He persevered as one of the most important Orthodox rabbis of his era despite tremendous personal adversity and challenges. Grab this opportunity to learn about American and Philadelphia Jewish History and daven at this special makom tefila! |
We'd love to see you there!
Please keep in mind that parking in the area is scarce even on Sundays. Carpool or Uber is encouraged. We will meet at the gate of the cemetery at 1:30 pm. Rabbi Glatstein will address the assembled and then we will use the time to daven, first communally and then individually. Mincha at the Kollel is at 2:30 p.m. and another minyan will be held before the Annual Lecture later that evening in the Merion Tent at 7:30 p.m. Upon exiting the site, there are no sinks so it may be a good idea to bring bottled water. A limited supply of water and washing cups will be available.
We thank Congregation Mikveh Israel and Aviel Nissimi for their assistance in providing access to this special place.
